Preparation
Grease and preheat your waffle maker (I have the Presto 03510 Flipside Belgian Waffle Maker). Before using waffle maker wipe the inside with damp cloth and let dry. Keep it closed and plug it in. It will start to heat and a red light should turn on when heating. It will turn off which signals its done heating.
In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients together and mix. Add the applesauce and water and mix again to form your waffle batter. You will want it to look smooth!
Fold in the chocolate chips
If you're using a mini waffle maker, add 1/4 cup of the batter to the hot waffle maker and let it cook for 3-4 minutes until fully cooked. Repeat with the rest of the batter (total of 4 waffles)
If you're using a regular waffle maker, add 1 cup of the batter into the hot waffle maker, allow it to cook for 3-4 minutes, and repeat (4 waffles)
You will pour the batter in and use a spatula to spread it out. Set the timer to 4 mins. Close waffle maker and flip the waffle maker over 180 degrees. Use a fork to remove the waffle.
Thia recipe should make 4-5 waffles depedning on how much batter you use. If you're like me, I like to fill the waffle maker evenly to get jumbo waffles. But if you want a smaller waffle then you can pour less of the batter in!
